This master class is offered as part of the Northern California Flute Camp session and is open to the public for auditing only. NCFC students will perform in the class. About Keith Underwood

Internationally renowned flutist Keith Underwood has an interesting and diverse career. He is solo flutist for Parnassus and Ufonia, and has performed with most of the major musical organizations in the New York area, including the New York Philharmonic, the American Composer’s Orchestra, and the Orpheus Ensemble. Keith is a well-known flute teacher and a teacher of general techniques for wind players and singers.

Many of the musicians who have studied with him currently play in major orchestras throughout the U.S. and abroad, including the Atlanta Symphony, the Boston Symphony, the Cleveland Orchestra, the L.A. Philharmonic, the New York Philharmonic, and the San Francisco, Dallas, Houston, Honolulu, Detroit and Toronto Symphonies.

Throughout the year, Keith teaches in master classes and seminars in various locations in the U.S. and abroad. He has been invited to teach at institutions such as the Eastman School of Music, the Juilliard School, Rice University, North Texas State University, the University of Iowa, the University of Minnesota, the Berklee College of Music and the Music and Misashino Adameia Musicae (Tokyo). The countries he has taught in are Brazil (where he taught on a Fulbright Lectureship Grant in 1986), Japan, Italy, and Mexico. Each summer Keith gives master classes in Abiquiu, NM, and right here at Hidden Valley. Keith is a graduate of the Yale University School of Music where he studied with the legendary Thomas Nyfenger. He currently teaches at the Mannes College of Music, New York University, and the New England Conservatory on a regular basis.
