Northern California Flute Camp is a one-week, intensive program designed to educate and inspire young flutists through an interesting and cultivating curriculum that examines many aspects of flute performance. Presented at Hidden Valley Music Seminars in beautiful Carmel Valley, NCFC offers a comprehensive camp experience by combining first-rate musical training with outdoor activities in the prime of California's physical surroundings.
The unique structure of the program, including multiple faculty members with rich and varied teaching backgrounds, offers students an extensive view of the flute. With a staff-to-student ratio of 1 to 6, students receive a great deal of individual attention throughout the week.
Flute choirs including full instrumentation (C flute, piccolo, alto and bass flute*) afford students the opportunity to develop intonation, rhythm, and ensemble skills. Additionally, students participate in small ensembles of 2 to 5 players, and in frequent solo recital performances with piano accompaniment. Daily master classes and individual coaching appointments provide continual and concentrated input from faculty. Workshops focusing on a variety of topics, including controlling performance nerves, repertoire, jazz flute, piccolo techniques, pedagogy, and working with an accompanist are offered as electives.
Flute choirs, small ensembles, and most academic activities are grouped according to level of advancement and experience. In addition to the daily curriculum, two well-known Guest Artists will give classes to students.
